Need advice:

As Michael and I prepare to head out west I am researching ways in which to communicate with my family and friends from afar. So, I'm looking into Skype. Here are my questions:

1) Does anybody use this?
2) Do you like it?
3) Are there better alternatives?
4) Is it worth it to get this program?

If anyone has any advice on the matter please fill me in! I really need to get this set up soon.

Thanks!

I dont have it, but my boss used to. It is basically just a phone system. You can make calls from your computer and talk to other people who have it (the site says for a small cos you can also call normal phones). I do know that my boss got a virus on his computer that may have come through skype.

So, if you are gettin a normal phone line (or using cell phones) I dont know if you really need this, unless you have lots of people who use it (you can maek free calls to those people)

Hope this helps! :)

Hi Katie, I have recently been reading your blog. My husband has recently joined the Navy and I will be going through what you are going through! It looks like we will be in Florida :) I am excited about it all!

We have used Skype and for the most part I haven't found anything wrong. A couple of times I noticed a delay in the conversation. But other then that it is great for family! I hope you have a safe and happy move :)

Merry Christmas

Katie,
We used Skype all the time when Christen was in France a year or two ago! It is fabulous! I would say definitly get it! We had a webcam on both ends so she was able to see us and Amys kids and we could see her...which was so cool! It is really nice...cuz you can talk all you want and it doesnt run up your phone bill!

We got a house line with unlimited long distance calling (w/ AT&T it's $55/month total). Last month we used over 1,300 minutes! There's a certain freedom knowing you're not paying per minute. We've also used Yahoo Messenger because you can web cam through them for free... but not all the time do I have the time to just sit in front of the computer to talk. The skill of giving the person you're talking to your undivided attention is lost on our generation.

For I am in a time of life when things change around me. Everything I own or think I have control over I must lay before my Father's feet: my education, my body, my place of residence, my husband, my children.
